Feaster is local-first by design. Your reading history, feed subscriptions, notes, and Knowledge Base entries live in a SQLite database on your machine. None of it is sent to a server unless you explicitly opt in to a future sync feature.
Data the desktop app sends
- Feed fetches — the desktop app fetches RSS/Atom/JSON Feed URLs on your behalf. These requests go directly from your machine to the feed publisher.
- Update checks — the desktop app periodically polls
/api/updateson this site to ask if a newer version is available. These requests carry your current version and platform; nothing else. - Add URL fetches — when you paste a URL into the “Add to KB” flow, the desktop app fetches the page to read its title and metadata.
- Telemetry — anonymous, opt-in, default off. Disabled entirely in the proof-of-concept release.
Data this website collects
- Plausible Analytics — privacy-friendly page-view counts. No cookies, no fingerprinting, no personal data.
- Newsletter signups — your email address, stored at our transactional email provider (Resend). One-click unsubscribe in every email.
Phase 2: hosted web app and sync
When the optional hosted web app and cross-device sync ship, signed-in users will see a clearer policy covering what is stored server-side and how to delete it. Phase 2 is opt-in; the desktop app continues to work locally without any account.
